Democritus Aerospace Team

The Democritus Aerospace Team (DAST) focuses on the research, design, and development of aerospace systems, bringing together students from different engineering fields to work on real, hands-on projects. Our team integrates aeronautics, avionics, and embedded systems, following a complete engineering workflow — from concept and simulation to manufacturing, assembly, and testing. Our current main project is the SDX1, a fixed-wing UAV designed as a modular, multi-purpose platform capable of hosting various AI-based systems depending on the mission. Built with an emphasis on efficiency, adaptability, and low-cost construction, the SDX1 is now entering the assembly test phase and represents our team’s first step toward developing advanced unmanned aerial technologies.
