Let us introduce
We are Democritus Aerospace Team (DAST) a student team at Democritus University school of Engineering that focuses on the research, design, analysis and development of aerospace projects. To achieve such a challenge we bringing together students from different engineering fields. Our team integrates aerodynamic, mechanical, structural, software and electrical design, following a complete engineering workflow — from concept and simulation to manufacturing, assembly and testing. The current main projects are SDX1 — a fixed-wing UAV capable of maintaining level flight for extended time periods and a payload designed to run AI based systems depending on the mission. CanSat Sub-Orbital Rocket — a rocket capable of reaching an altitude of more than 1km, carrying a CanSat to release at 1km and then safely return to the ground. SDX2 — a solar powered aircraft intended to fly with minimum power consumption. ACC Aircraft — we plan to compete in ACC | Air Cargo Challenge 2028— and lastly EuRoC Sub-Orbital Rocket — we are currently developing a rocket with the goal to compete for the first time at the European Rocketry Challenge next year.
TEAM DEPARTMENTS
Aeronautics Department
Aerodynamics, Structurs and Assembly
This department focuses on the aerodynamic, structural and manifacturing design of the various projects that our team technical board decides to pursue. Then the department’s task is to examine the problem and find a way to solve it. More specific we will analyze aerodynamicly, structuraly, thermaly, chemicly and in the case of manufacturability aircrafts, rockets and various other crafts.
Electronics and Software Department
Electronics, Communications, Remote Sensing, Energy Managment and Software
Our task is to find the optimum way to meet our computational needs using the least power possible. We programm our electronics, write custom software to help other departments, dvelop machine learnig models and we are tasked with the management of our servers and networks. Furthermore in the department we use our knowledge communications problems
Marketing and Graphic Design Department
Social Media Managment, Fundraising, Αdvertisement, Planning and Graphic Design
Our department manages the image, strategy of the team and the advertisements we do. We are also in charge of suppling parts to all the departments, finding sources and supporters to buy them and then planning and managing their advertisment. Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook, Linkdin and our website are some of the social media that are managed by us with the goal of making every participant of our agreements a winner. The departments artistic members produce art in various forms -to help with advertisment- such us photograhps, posters, banners, images, leaflets and more. We also plan our participations at national and international exhibitions, conferences and competitions.
